Lately, the selection and research of the isolated core from argillaceous-siliceous deposits of the Bazhenov formation allowed receiving new information about reservoirs of these strata. New information contradicts the earlier existing opinion, about clay reservoirs of the Bazhenov formation. On the example of a several fields, located on the different flanks of the Frolovsky megahollow in Western Siberia, it was proven that generally, the reservoirs of the Bazhenov formation are dated for radiolarian layers, in various degree siliceous or carbonaceous.

The conditions of the Bazhenov formation deposits sedimentation predetermined consistency and smooth changes of the geological structure in the area. Therefore, radiolarian layers, which have contrasting physical properties in comparison with clay and siliceous matrix, are unquestionably traced in well core and log sets. However, despite consistency of a sector structure, its properties on the area change widely.

Determination of radiolarian layers location is part of the task. The other task is revealing of the reservoirs properties changes in the area. The major factors, which form the reservoirs properties in the Bazhenov formation, are the secondary transformations of rocks and existence of faults with various occurrence in time. Depending on the combined influence of these factors the reservoirs, which properties can change in a wide range, are formed.

In the presentation, structural and lithological characteristic of the Bazhenov formation deposits in the central part of Western Siberia are considered. Explicitly questions of post-sedimentation transformations of formations and regularities in distribution in a cross section of various types of rocks are addressed. Separately the question about laboratory methods of reservoirs identification of the deposits in the Bazhenov formation and determination of their porosity and permeability are mentioned. Examples of various influences on the porosity and permeability of deposits lithological structure and tectonic factor are given.

Speaker
Varvara Nemova is the senior scientific researcher of JSC «Geological Modeling & Reservoir Monitoring Ltd.» ("MIMGO") company where she works after graduating from Moscow State University. She hold a Ph degree in geological science.

She is author and co-author of several scientific articles, participant of the international scientific and practical conferences in the field of unconventional oil. She is also a co-author of a number of production reports on creation and monitoring of reservoir models of field in Western Siberia, models created based on detailed analyses of core and interpretation of seismic data.

Varvara manages complex studies of the Bazhenov formation deposits, including creation of reservoir models on the basis of seismic exploration data, using results of complex core analysis by lithological, petrophysical and geochemical methods.

Her activity involves experimental works on optimization of laboratory-based complex core analysis of the Bazhenov formation for the purpose of increasing reliability and informational content of the results.
