2014 SPE Russian and Caspian Regional Student Paper Contest

The 2014 Regional Student Paper Contest was held during the SPE Russian Oil and Gas Exploration and Production Technical Conference and Exhibition 2014. The contest had three divisions: undergraduate (15th of October), master’s, and PhD (16th of October).

40 students from 28 registered SPE student chapters from the region took part in the Contest.  Winners were selected based on the technical content and individual presentation skills by a panel of three judges.

18 students from 18 universities competed in the undergraduate division, presenting their work on a variety of technical topics. The winners:

  • 1st place  –   Anton Zaitsev, Gubkin Russian State University of oil and gas
  • 2nd place  –  Andrey Tikhonov
  • 3rd place  –  Viktor Pankov

 

In the master’s division, 12 competitors from 12 universities impressed the panel of three judges with their depth of research and presentation quality. The winners:

  • 1st place  –   Yuriy Alkhimenkov, Moscow State University
  • 2nd place  –  Evgeniy Suchkov, Academy of Oil and Gas Engineering (Sochi)
  • 3rd place  –  Yan Nevmerzhitskiy, MPHTI

 

In PhD division 10 contestants presented original  presentations. The winners:

  • 1st place  –   Sergey Durkin, Ukhta State Technical University
  • 2nd place  –  Petr Dergach, Trofimuk Institute of Petroleum Geology and Geophysics  
  • 3rd place  –  Ekaterina Krasnova, Tyumen State Oil and Gas University

First-place winners will receive an all-expenses paid trip to represent the region at the 2015 International SPE Student Paper Contest, which will be held during the SPE Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition in 2015 in Houston, USA
