Brief overview of Annual Meeting having been held in the Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas on May 31.

May 31, 2010 Gubkin SPE Student Chapter held the Annual Meeting within the walls of Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas.

Audience consisted of representatives of oil and gas companies including Rosneft, TNK-BP, Chevron, Schlumberger and others, university administration, Gubkin University students and also of MIPT SPE Student Chapter’s members.

Overview of the Chapter for the 2009-2010 academic year was presented at the meeting. Former president of the Chapter Niyaz Garaev told about the activities carried out. Particular attention was paid to visit to the VII International Oil and Gas Forum by members of the Chapter, the Forum was held in Kazakh National Technical University named after K.I. Satpayev. Participant and winner of the forum Timur Mokshayev shared with the audience his impressions about the trip.

Also new leaders of the Chapter was presented to the audience and they made a speech on the present of the Chapter, goals and plans for future development. Particular attention was paid to main Chapter’s projects: Student Scientific Conference “Oil and Gas Horizons”, the next will be held on November 8-9; and team intellectual game “Oil and Gas Arena”, this is a new project of the Chapter. Furthermore, Gubkin SPE Student Chapter plans to continue to hold meetings and workshops with experts from oil and gas companies.

In the end of the meeting Anatoly Zolotukhin, pro-rector of international affairs of Gubkin University was made a speech. He summarized the Chapter’s work, noted the importance of its activities for the students, the opportunities offered by SPE in terms of access to information about new technologies, and also gave some historical background on the development of SPE in Russia being a direct participant in the events, spoke about the career achievements of people involved in social activities under aegis of SPE.

Maria Belyanushkina, board member of the SPE Moscow Section, the coordinator of work with students, also addressed the meeting. She expressed some wishes for Student Chapter’s activities and invited to participate in the contest of student research papers, which will be held at the upcoming SPE conference “Russian Oil and Gas”.

 Currently Gubkin SPE Student Chapter is a mobile team of activists consisting of 30 persons directly engaged in the activities and Chapter development, as well as about 120 members of the Chapter involved in various activities of SPE in the university and beyond.

Gubkin SPE Student Chapter stays in contact with other student chapters, including ones from Tyumen, Ufa, Kazakhstan, and also Chapter develops relationship with chapters of Austria and China.

An important component of the Chapter activities is participation in various conferences, including their organization, participation in events held by the SPE Moscow Section.

As a social student organization, Gubkin University SPE Student Chapter conducts its activities for the advancement of knowledge and skills of students - future oil and gas industry workers - to make their work in companies more effective and successful, thereby contributing to the development of oil and gas world.
