More details about the topic

Yarega field of high-viscosity oil has been discovered in 1932. This oil field is situated on the south of Timano-Pechorskaya province, 18 kilometers from Ukhta, Komi Republic.

Terrigenous reservoir of Yarega oil field is located at a depth of about 200 meters and is characterized by a high permeability, 2-3 mkm², high oil saturation – 0,87 and its porosity is about 0,26. Specific feature of this oil field is high-viscosity oil, which is 16000 mPa*s when initial formation temperature is 6 degrees Celcius.

Since 1939 oil on Yarega field is extracted by mining technology methods with the use of underground wells. Since 1972 and till our days mining technologies of oil production are commercially realized by using of thermal-stream formation treatment.

During the Yarega oil field exploitation period about 10 systems of thermal-mining development have been tested. Nowadays there are three systems which are used: one or two horizontal system, downhole and surface system. Downhole and surface system is the most productive, speed of oil extraction is higher in 1,5 - 2 times. This system is being improved since 2012.

With the industrial application of thermal-mining technologies on Lyayelskaya part of Yarega oil field, not operated before, since 1973 till 1995 there were pilot works in thermal treatment of formation through the vertical wells drilled from the surface area. At the same time technologies of pattern drive by hot condensate front from steam injection and cycling steam.

New stage in technologies of downhole and surface system heavy oil production development on Lyayelskaya part of Yarega oilfield started in 2010 in one of experimental areas, where mountain constructions are absent. The technology used there is thermogravitational drainage.

Experience of thermal-mining development on Yarega oil field demonstrates possibilities of achievement of Oil Recovery > 0.5 and in some areas more than 0.7. Improvement of thermal-mining development systems can significantly reduce costs for heavy oil production.

The results achieved in the beginning of surface production technologies experiment allow to hope for a successful application of this technology in complex-structured reservoirs.
