More details about the topic:

Drilling is very expensive process that’s why all oil and gas companies want to improve it. Footage and rate of penetration are key factors. There are a lot of drilling equipment and technologies in the market which can improve ROP and reduce well construction time. Nevertheless drill bit stays the most efficient by cost and result. Huge amount in drill bits research and development processes has progressing during the last twenty years. PDC bits have made revolution in rate of penetration. They have the most efficient rock fracture mechanism – shearing. High ROP and durability helped PDC bits to increase market share and replace Roller Cone bits which had dominated in drilling industry last 100 years. However PDC bits have limitations: sensitivity to impact loading which could be expected in some rocks (chert, gravel, dolerite) or in inhomogeneous rocks (soft-hard-soft). There is abrasion wear which observed while drilling high abrasive rocks (sandstone and siltstone). These geological properties are widely presented in Russia – Timano-Pechora, Volgo-Ural, East-Siberian regions. That’s why further drilling optimization can’t be done without new technologies – special drill bits product lines. Improvements come in three direction – ROP, Durability and Impact resistance increasing.

What will be covered in presentation: new technologies which are present in market: rolling cutters, conical and ridge diamond elements with case studies.
