More details about the topic

Today substantial part of oil production is produced from complex, inhomogeneous fractured reservoirs. There is no generally recognized universal approach for reservoir surveillance in such fields. Warren-Root model realistically characterize only uniformly spaced in the reservoir fissuring. Large regional faults can be seen by seismic. But locally spaced fracturing is still a problem for reservoir engineers.

Author present method of reservoir surveillance, well-testing and production logging combination to localize such fracturing.

“Eclipse” and “tNavigator” 3D numerical simulation used to estimate sensitivity to distance between fractures, their spacing and position in the reservoir. Connection between those parameters and formation permeability and skin-factor (from the well-test) is found.

It helps to invent surveillance method to determine those parameters. Well-test must be long enough to drainage a large volume of the reservoir, well bore storage must be decreased to be able to see early time radial flow (matrix filtration) and late time radial flow (matrix and fractures filtration).

A main result of the method was reservoir description to improve reservoir performance, recommend production enhancement operations, decrease risk of low rate of new wells.
