However, despite a lot of attention, numerous studies and scientific papers, and, apparently, full clarity of approaches to the study of geology and development design, there are still, unfortunately, a lot of cases where the opportunities and recoverable reserves of carbonate field are not confirmed..

This paper summarizes the experience of work of OJSC Zarubezhneft with carbonate reservoirs with a wide range of geologic and physical properties and fundamentally different development dynamics and final oil recovery factors. It offers a detailed description of a step-by-step approach to simulating carbon reservoirs, looks at key factors which influence on the efficiency of development and determines the ranges of their influence on the final result.

Also, it provides a brief overview of the projects currently implemented at Company’s fields which are aimed at increasing the oil recovery in hydrophobic reservoirs and reservoirs with mixed wettability.
