i-DRILL is an engineering service that specializes in predictive modeling to solve drill string related problems by analysing drilling operations and developing optimised drilling program solutions that reduce risks and lower drilling costs for our Customers. This service is provided by a group of specifically trained engineers using IDEAS (Integrated Design and Engineering Analysis System) programs running on high end Linux boxes.

Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software is used for modeling the bit and drillstring along with utilizing bit / rock interaction data derived from lab testing. It is the industry’s most powerful, pre-well planning analysis resource, and is capable of optimizing the total drilling process, including bit/reamer selection, optimisation of operating parameters, design of the bottom-hole assembly (BHA) and precise placement of each individual BHA component.

Biography

Nick Benson
Graduated 1997 with a BSc Hons from Manchester. Started Oil Industry career with Baker Hughes as a Logging Geologist, left as a Data Engineer in 2000. Joined M-I Drilling Fluids and worked as a Drilling Fluids Engineer for 2 years. Moved to Smith Bits in 2003 as an Application/Sales Engineer, initially working in Libya. I transferred to Aberdeen in 2006 in a similar role covering the UK. Joined the Engineering Solutions Group in 2009 in a Drilling Analysis Engineer/Facilitator position. This role involves project work with the emphasis on performance analysis to engineer solutions using various techniques such as empirical analysis, benchmarking software along with simulations using high powered computer modelling namely i-DRILL.

Alexander Kuznetsov
Graduated in 2005 with M.Sc. in Physics degree from Novosibirsk State Technical University. Started Oilfield career in Schlumberger Wireline as a Junior Field Engineer for Western Siberia, Russia. Worked there for 4 years performing various open hole and cased hole logging jobs. Was in charge of the operating cell and responsible for the training and development of personnel assigned to the cell and for the maintenance status of assigned equipment. Left in 2009 as a Senior Field Engineer. Joined Smith International/ Engineering Solutions Group in 2010 as an i-DRILL engineer. Perform projects related to computer modelling and simulations using IDEAS software and provide i-DRILL service solutions.
