SPE has extended the SPE Russian Petroleum Technology Conference (26-28 October 2015, Moscow, Russia) call for papers submission deadline to 23 March 2015. We hope it will give you further opportunities to submit your papers.

Dear SPE members and oil and gas professionals!

SPE Moscow section monthly meeting took place on February, 10.

Alexander Letichevskiy, Head of production stimulation and hydraulic fracturing division in OJCS Samaraneftegaz (OJSC “Rosneft” Oil Company), presented ''High pressure' hydraulic fracturing or practical experience of geomechanical modeling'.

One of the important stages of oil fields development design is the selection of well placement and its completion methods. The challenge of this task is due to decision-making process performance with the lack of information on reservoir structure and substantial uncertainty in the input data. In this context, the most sustainable decision can be reached by using relatively simple models and methods. The traditional 3D simulation is often inapplicable due to the need in calculation of vast number of development system options provided for analysis of uncertainties impact in the input parameters. Simplified models with relatively simple analytical decisions in basis relieve the case.

Only Five Days Away from Paper Submission Deadline!

Conference New approaches in reserves estimation of hydrocarbon resources will take place in Tyumen 11-12 February 2015

With great probability today we can say that hydraulic fracturing is not the only one of the methods for oil extraction intensification but is an effective instrument for oil field development process regulation in whole. The analysis of accumulated experience at hydraulic fracturing operations allows us to speak about its effectiveness almost at all oil field development stages.

Dear SPE members and oil and gas professionals!

Another SPE Moscow section monthly meeting took place on January, 20.

Mike Zuber, Technical Advisor from Schlumberger in Asia Area, presented 'Tight Coalbed Methane A Giant Worldwide Resource: How do we Produce it? (Challenges and Solutions)'.

The development of coalbed methane (CBM) has been limited to moderate- to high-permeability reservoirs (>1 md).  However, a significant resource of natural gas exists within low-permeability coals (<1 md).  Worldwide CBM resources are estimated to range from 3,500-7,000 Tcf, and EIA estimates >800 Tcf are technically recoverable.  As of 2010, however, only 60-70 Tcf of CBM reserves were proved.  Vast CBM resources are untapped.

Dear SPE members and oil and gas professionals!

Another SPE Moscow section monthly meeting took place on December 9, and it was the last lecture in 2014.

The meeting began with pleasant news from Gubkin Russian State Oil and Gas University students. Marat Tukhvatullin, Gubkin University Chapter President, gave a short summary of the sixth annual international student conference "Oil and Gas Horizons" and on behalf of the Chapter payed respects to the sponsors and partners of the conference by awarding memorable gifts.
